Since its inception in 2003, the program has raised more than $700,000 through donations from partners, Wal-Mart customers and various other fundraisers.

This year, the Victory Lap Charity Program hopes to hit the one million mark. Now in its sixth edition, the tour begins in Richmond Hill, ON on May 7 and will make its way through three provinces before crossing the finish line in Peterborough, Ontario, on September 27.

The Tour is supported by Procter & Gamble and Wal-Mart Canada, in coordination with new and existing partners. Alex Tagliani, the newest face on the NASCAR Canada circuit, has once again joined fellow Canadian racer, and 2007 NASCAR Canada Champion, Andrew Ranger, as a co-ambassador for the 2008 program.

There will be something for everyone when the Victory Lap Tour sets up on the premises of Wal-Mart stores. The event features exclusive displays, product samples and giveaways, an opportunity to view a full-size replica of Andrew’s winning Wal-Mart/Tide Ford No. 27 car and a chance to actually feel what it’s like to be a part of the winner’s circle.

“I have been involved with Victory Lap from the very beginning and it has been such a pleasure to actually meet some of the children and their families that the program is helping,” said Ranger. “As a race-car driver I have my share of challenges on the track. These kids face much bigger challenges every day but they never lose their positive attitude.”

Sylvain Prud’homme, senior vice president of Wal-Mart Canada, said the growing popularity of the Victory Lap national tour is a source of pride for everyone that is involved in the fund-raising effort.

“When we initiated the Victory Lap Charity Program six years ago, we believed it was a unique and entertaining way to raise money for kids in need,” remarked Prud’homme. “The public’s support of the project has truly been outstanding, and that is important because our combined support is needed more than ever to help enhance the lives of these courageous youngsters.”

John Hartman, chief international officer for Children’s Miracle Network, lauded Wal-Mart Canada and the communities at large for their participation in the Victory Lap Charity Program.

“This innovative fund-raising program is a testament to the generosity and goodwill of people across the country, and Children’s Miracle Network is most appreciative of and grateful for their contribution,” he stated. “Their support plays an instrumental role in helping to provide care and foster hope for children faced with adversity.”
